Ever since we moved to Sheffield I’ve been a big fan of Street Food Chef. It’s a family-run business and the food is made fresh each day using locally sourced ingredients. Independent businesses supporting other indie businesses is one of the many reasons I try to support local biz where possible. It has a positive knock-on effect.
They make fantastic burritos, tacos, quesadillas and perhaps my most regular order, naked burritos aka a Mexican plate. I love a good burrito but I often opt for the plate to avoid the bread. The plate is huge, my mum and I shared this last time we had it. If you’re super hungry it’s perfect but if you’re looking for a light lunch then I’d suggest sharing it.
They have a choice of meaty fillings, this time I had the pulled pork but more often I’m picking their veg chilli and sometimes I’m happy with black beans and rice. I love black beans! I believe the plate and burritos come with sour cream so be sure to ask for it dairy free. The guacamole is the best I’ve ever had too. It doesn’t come with the meal, you add it on as an extra but it’s totally worth it – just look at that big dollop.
I have an intolerance which causes my eczema to flare up so while it isn’t life threatening if I have dairy it does result in an annoying and very itchy rash (usually). If you suffer from eczema you’ll know that it’s not ‘just a rash’ but we’ll get onto that at a later date. Always ask in-store about their dairy free options and be sure to let them know if you have an allergy – that way they can give you a run down of the ingredients and how everything is made. They’re very accommodating and even have a full GF menu
They have 4 locations but this is the one I visit most often: 90 Arundel Street, Sheffield, S1 4RE
